Twisted Sister - Under The Blade (Special Edition)

Armoury Records 2011

The first thing that will catch your eye about the newly re-issued Under The Blade is the restored Secret Records artwork. Under The Blade and You Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll are Twisted Sister at their most metal. Sadly after these two efforts Twisted slapped more and more make-up, the outfits got out of control and their sound was more commercialized.

Armoury Records 2011 edition features the original recording which features concert staples like; “Shoot ‘Em Down,” “Destroyer,” “What You Don’t Know (Sure Can Hurt You),” and the title cut “Under The Blade.” It doesn’t end there-Armoury Records included Twisted Sister’s Ruff Cutts E.P. which included early demo renditions of “What You Don’t Know (Sure Can Hurt You),” “Shoot ‘Em Down,” “Under The Blade,” and early version of “Leader Of The Pack, and a live version of “Shoot ‘Em Down” taken from their triumphant performance at The Reading Festival from 1982. The Ruff Cutts E.P. was meant simply to tide over rabid fans until Twisted Sister released their debut album. Needless to say that the initial pressings sold out faster than you could say "is that a Twisted Sister pin on your uniform?"

Under The Blade 2.0’s greatness doesn’t end with these additional sought after tracks; there’s also a bonus DVD that features Twisted Sister’s appearance at The Reading Festival. While there are limitations given the available technology in 1982 and the fact that this performance is in raw form because it was broadcast to the V.I.P. tents across the festival grounds. This DVD showcases Twisted Sister’s punk rock attitude, their fantastic showmanship, their well crafted songs and their ability to move a crowd of thousands. Rounding out the DVD is an early era Twisted Sister interview that gives added value to this already must have collection.
